Research on the validity of PSI-Ⅱ scale for Korean personality style for youth

Abstract

|
This study was conducted to validate PSI-Ⅱ(Personal Style Inventory-revised) which the scale measuring the personality style of people who are predisposed to the depression. The participants were 898 high school students (400 male students and 498 female students). The factor analysis showed that there are two main factors such as sociotropy and autonomy along with the final 35 questions. In the sociotropy, two sub-factors were extracted such as “excessive worry about being not accepted by people” and “over considering for others” while in autonomy, two sub-factors were also extracted such as “independeny and individualism”, and “rejection for control and defensive activities”. The construct validity showed that the female students had significantly higher scores in the items of total score in sociotropy and the sub-factors of “excessive worry about being not recognized by people”. The convergent validity showed that the correlation between sub-factors of sociotropy, and between sub-factors of autonomy were significantly high with .63∼.96. The divergent validity showed the middle level of correlation with .29∼.51. In addition, the correlation analysis with the scale of depression for the criterion-related validity showed the middle level of correlation with .24∼.40. The internal consistency reliability showed the good result with .73 to .89.
